Sunday Hike (Dec 16th)

Time and place TBD (suggestions are welcome). Sign up with the usual details, or e-mail Anton.
I'd like to suggest either the 3 pools beyond 7 falls , Cathedral peak which is very strenuous but a lot of fun, or the rock garden which I've never hiked but it is a local favorite. These hikes are in the "front country" which means very little driving is required.

1. Armita, no car, can meet you at KITP.
2. Karen - interested but it depends on when we get back. I'd like to be back by 4 pm, 5 at the latest, so I'd prefer an earlier departure. I'm up for a strenuous hike.

Group Dinner Thursday Dec 13th (departure from KITP at 7:00 pm)

Surfing Lesson - Monday, 12/16, 7-9 am

With Surf Happens @ Santa Claus Lane Beach, $55/person

If others are interested in arranging their own lesson, options include Campus Point (Surf Country, ~$75; and Santa Barbara Seals, $60) or if we have car transportation, beaches south of Santa Barbara such as Santa Claus Lane in Carpintera or Mondo's cove.

Update: Surfing lesson to be held at 7 am on Monday, Dec. 16, at Santa Claus Lane for up to 4 people. Cost is $55/person and includes wetsuit, surfboard, and instruction as well as a hat and photos.

Directions to Santa Claus Lane (about 20-30 minutes from KITP)
From Santa Barbara, go south on the 101. Get off at Santa Claus Lane and go straight through the stop sign. Drive approximately 200 yards down the Lane and you will see the building/business called Salt (directions). Park just before the building and you will see a trail designated by a porta potty and some trash cans. You can also look for a brightly colored trailer as a land marker. The instructors will meet you out at the road.

2. Grégoire - I have a small car - preference for Saturday morning.
3. Jonathan - willing to bike or sit in a car (I don't have one though)

Directions: directions
Participants (sign up here):

 2. Fabio
 3. Karen - Fabio, Irina, and I are here at KITP (1 pm) but will probably bike to the grove to meet Chitra. Is Gregoire's cell correct? I tried to call it but the number did not go through. We will go along the beach for part of the way. See you all there.

 7. Grégoire (cell#: 202.2302.2511 + I have a car): where are we meeting?

Note: because of the bad weather and the possibility that the density peak for the butterflies be later on this month, either a walk along the shore or a trip to SB might be considered as alternatives if the planned event turns out to be unsuccessful.
